Also, the best hitters are far cheaper per plate appearance than the best pitchers are per inning. The most expensive hitter per PA is 1953 Ted Williams at $40,467 for each of his 113 PA/162. Seven other hitters cost more than $30K per PA and an additional 37 hitters cost more than $20K per PA. That's a total of 45 hitters who cost more than $20K per PA. Of those 45 players, 21 had fewer than 500 PA/162.
There are roughly 440 pitcher seasons with a cost per inning of more than the TW's cost per plate appearance. I didn't try to count and see if any pitchers w/ multiple teams in one season are on the list so the number is likely slightly lower. Three pitchers ('03 Gagne, '90 Eck, and '12 Kimbrel) have a cost of over $100K/IP. There are 73 pitchers with 162 or more IP/162 whose cost is $40K per inning or higher led by '00 Pedro Martinez at $90,968 per IP.
I realize that regular hitters have more PA in a season than any pitcher has IP except for a few 19th century anomalies. But, this tells me that the sim has had a huge built-in advantage for hitters at almost any cap level. In a $255M league, the stats will be wacky compared to RL anyway, but at least it's possible to have a staff of the absolute best pitchers with a reasonable amount of IP and have an offense that can compete.
At a $100M cap, the average cost per IP for most staffs will hover around $35K. The cost of the starting eight hitters will likely be around $10K per PA. I don't have historical salary data, but I wonder if the cost per IP and cost per PA were closer years ago.
