How many plate appearances does a player need to qualify for the AS game? That doesn't seem to be anywhere in the game's documentation.

There's no specific, direct requirement for plate appearances. For all positions but DH, the main category is runs created. However, since that is a cumulative statistic, players with more plate appearances are more likely to have higher RCs. For DHs, RC27 is the main category, but plate appearances also are considered. The game does not specify a minimum number of plate appearances for DHs -- just that they are a consideration. Defensive statistics such as plus plays, errors, etc. also are taken into consideration for position players (with the obvious exception of DHs.)

Also note that to be eligible at a position, players must have played at least half of your team's innings at that position. That means that you can have the best hitter in the league by a long shot, but if he doesn't meet the innings requirement at a specific position, he's not eligible for the all-star game. For example, if your team has played 820 innings at the all-star break, and your hitter who leads the league in runs created has split time between 2 or 3 positions, he won't be eligible for all-star consideration unless he has at least 410 innings played at one of those positions. Support has been claiming for years that this is on the list of things to be fixed, but I'm not holding my breath.
That example is so frustrating. I once split a HOFer at 2B/LF, he played 95% of all innings but didn't have enough at either position to make the ASG.
