I can't seem to find any advice on draft prep. Anyone have a method to that they would share? I previously have been doing this: set the settings, move the low health guys to the bottom, adjust the top 5 or so on the board after that.

thoughts?

1. Remember to throw the OVR out the window when evaluating players.
2. Copy all ratings into a spreadsheet
3. Apply my own formulas to both pitcher ratings and hitter ratings
4. Rank the players based on a combination of the formulas and other factors (fielding position, health, signability, patience)

I do the same as brianplath, with the exception that I don't spreadsheet. I'd probably be more accurate if I did.

I'll add a couple of specifics. First, I look at each position group individually. There are usually one or two or even three in which absolutely no prospects look like they have a shot at making the majors. I take those positions off my draft settings completely.

Second, there are only certain types of players I think ever make it to the majors. I go through the position groups and pick them out, moving them to the top. Usually end up with a list of 40 or 50 prospects. Essentially, I don't want to burn a high draft pick on a player who's never going to get out of AA. I'd rather get an extra C or long reliever out of it.

Same -- spreadsheet it; eyeball it. The best advice for the draft I can give is that if you're going to be spending a lot of real life time on it, be sure to have scouting that is maxed out. A 14 million dollar scouting budget every season won't cut it.

I don't use the positional rankings in my settings. I draft the best player available based on my manual rankings, but checking out positions that are duds and then eliminating them from your board seems like a clever idea.
