If you extend an invite only offer, can you add as a minor league agent (at $54K) or do you need to add at a big league contact, ( $327K) otherwise losing them to free agency at the end of spring training?

Correct. I’ve offered a minor league with a spring training invite. However, he currently favors another offer. Short of offering a major league contract, is there a way I can sweeten the offer?

No, you've gone as far as you can. Even if you do offer a BL contract, he might reject it because he is not ready to start his clock running yet.
