Yes, they do read these posts. And I'm sure they will get right on all of that stuff as soon as they read your post.

I guess now that real baseball is allegedly going to be more like baseball in the 80s, we'll see how people feel about HBD. I've read many arguments on this board that the 70s/80s/90s brand of baseball was much better than 2000s, 2010s and 2020s brand of baseball. Maybe we'll find out if those were opinions of folks that just looked back fondly on the baseball of their youth or if they truly liked that brand of baseball better. Allegedly, that's the brand of baseball they're after, even if they have to give more power than ever to the umps in order to enforce the rules.

To me, the best thing about this game is the fact that they keep databases of certain stats for players and user's stats. Not many games do that for their online games. They usually clear them or offer a limited amount of data. I know OOTP does a decent job of this, too, but I will never play that. The Commissioner can go into commissioner mode at any time and see the "real" ratings. Until that's fixed, im an HBD guy.

We can complain all we want about how outdated HBD is, but until a better product comes along that keeps stats as well as HBD, limits the ability to easily cheat, and is affordable to play, all we have is HBD and I'll continue to play it. I would like to see udates, though. Because if there is a superior product that comes along, I'll be the first to jump ship.

1 - "It'll take us an hour to fix this old game right up"
2 - Buys company
3 - Checks out the code base
4 - Sells company
5 - Return to step 1

These steps have happened at least 5 times since I have been playing the game.

Are you sure you could add a DH to the NL "in an hour", in a game that was built more than 15 years ago?

Exactly the point. To do all the things necessary to get up to date, the game needs a complete rewrite. A complete rewrite needs the personnel to do it. A financial commitment from ownership to do it. And a shutdown or transition period of the existing game and user base to do it.

The game you're describing is OOTP. I personally like the snapshot in time nature of HBD but I get that some folks want variety and novelty.

Sometime 18-24ish months ago was the latest new owners-new employees change at WIS. Shortly after something to this effect was announced by WIS staff:

HBD was developed in 2005 using now very outdated code writing software. A complete re-write of the entire code using updated software is needed before any major changes can be done to HBD. We will make some minor updates in the next few months. The major re-write will not begin until after updates to other games on WIS and take several months to complete once it has been started.

That is a summary of the much longer announcement made at that time. They have done some minor updates as promised. However there has not been an update on the progress of the complete re-write for a long time. The major changes mentioned in the opening post of this thread are not possible with the current code.

It would also take a developer 30 minutes a day to read new posts and respond with SOME sort of an update.Alas, they're content to just keep taking our money, b/c we keep paying it.

I guess the re-write plan is no longer in the works based on the latest post in the critical news forum. I hope this means injury recovery is going to be fixed.
