Expand Rosters and DL Question Topic

I haven't seen this one asked on the forums, and I suppose the answer is implied. If you have someone who is on the 40 but doesn't show up on that list because he is also on the 60 day DL, will he be eligible for the playoffs if you want to wait until roster expansion to take him off the DL? I am guessing he should be eligible, but since he is not listed on the 40, maybe not. Does anyone know for sure?

He's not eligible for the playoffs.

Thanks.

Is real MLB like that? I seem to remember a righthander with a wicked slider getting eligible for the playoffs about 20 years ago. Forgetting the name....

Figured out who I was thinking of, doesn't apply here. What the Yankees did with Lieber in 03/04

Real MLB is not like that-- and I think that HBD is also not like that. I'm pretty certain that if you're on the major league 60-day DL on roster expansion day you're eligible for the playoffs.

I'll happily be proven wrong, but sometime in the past I did that exact thing: held a guy on the 60 through roster expansion and found out after he was ineligible.

Potentially they'd be eligible for the 2nd round?

Not sure why the round would make a difference. Well I took him off the dl and demoted the guy I brought up when I placed him on the dl, just to be sure. It would be good to know what the answer is, but I won't be able to find out this season hopefully...

I feel moderately confident that I've done that exact same thing in the past and the playoff status was, "eligible," not "off."

I'm almost certain they're eligible

The initial response to this incorrect. A player who was on the 60-day DL is eligible for the playoff roster. I literally just had this happen a couple weeks ago.

Stephen Scholl was on the 60-day with a shoulder injury.
Set postseason roster/Expand ML rosters was 4/24 AM
I didn't want to shuffle my 25-man ML so I waited a day and activated Scholl on 4/25 AM
If you click on his stats in the link I shared below you can see he pitched for me in the post-season, 3 appearances.

Thanks for the example. I was just sure that was the case but didn't have a current example. I'm pretty sure I've pulled guys off the 60 day and then activated them for the World Series after NLCS before.
