Larry Reed is #67 on the Big Board.
Last season Craig Tyrell ended the year at about #3

In the five core C/PF categories (Ath, Reb, Def, Blk, LP) Reed is better by an average of about 2 points per category.
In the other skill attributes (Spd, Per, Bh, Pa) is WAY better.
Reed is +7 in stamina and a 1/3 of a letter better in FT.

Does this disparity on BB placement seem right? I feel like Reed is low. Obviously not complaining about that since he's coming back. Just trying to understand the rankings. What is "holding back" Reed?

I think you have a handle on what happened, you just want confirmation. For many of our internal rankings, Reed looks better, because we kind of min/max our position evaluations to emphasize the traditional categories for each position, the "cores"; but the AI doesn't do that nearly as much. So in essence, the AI evaluation is that Reed is purely a post player at this point, but Tyrell was a dynamic SF-PF guy, and it values that kind of player higher (generally speaking).

Different formulas here. Forward vs. Big is the biggest difference in the game

yep - as noted above, nothing anomalous here. i have a big board forecaster that i’ve been playing around with which places these guys at #66 and #1 respectively.

if tyrell was rated as a center, he’d be around #20. if reed was rated as a forward, he’d be around #100. both are safely within the bounds of their respective position categories however.

higher speed, perimeter, and ball handling are the primary categories that increase likelihood of a player being categorized as a forward rather than a center. higher rebounding and shot blocking are the most highly correlated with center categorization.

unsurprisingly, when a player is categorized as a forward rather than a center, SPD/PER/BH all matter much more in calculating their position on the big board

hope this adds some extra color!
