Jfg - Just in case you had the same misunderstanding I had the first couple times I went through the rules - you don’t have to use the #2 most expensive, just one of the top 5 most expensive. Because it is top five salaries for five positions, I read the original post as being you had to use the most expensive for each.

You can alter your core 5 at anytime until the last team is submitted into the league. But, you must post the revised core 5 for it to be official.

Is the top 5 salaries for each too restrictive? Should it be the top 7, 8, 10 or maybe 15? I only had 20 mil left for 18 spots when I did the 41-43 example. Granted, it did have a 34 mil DEF. The key component is to remove cheap defenses and extreme offense. And this is running it over 3 years, so maybe 10 or closer to it is the right amount of flexibility and keeps the offense/defense balance intact.

Let me know what your thoughts are; Its early and we can change it now. I just hatched the idea, but haven’t done a deep dive of all decades yet.

The other issue is that you would need to open two or three windows on a laptop when you don’t have 3 consecutive years in a time capsule. So maybe we just say the top 10 at those positions for any year in your capsule. Much cleaner and simple to understand from a team building perspective and also auditing the final teams submitted,

I assume this means I can use 69 Vikings D and 63 Cleveland OL

Hi kaniac,

1963 is not available for a switch on the list. It must be an available single year. Your core 5 needs to be from 69-71. The Vikes and OJ are that. Lamar and Percy are different years. You could see if they are available in a single year during their playing career or try to trade for them.

This is not official, so you can change your time capsule choice as well.

So let’s change to the top 10 at each core 5 position for any years in your time capsule. Much easier and flexible.

I like my core 5 I think I'll keep it. See how everything shakes out with everyone else - surprised more people haven't picked yet.

The era I showed you in the sitemail works well... as do a couple others (I didn't test every single one) - but from what I saw there's lots of possibilities and some of the more veteran managers should welcome the challenge

Awesome to hear. Might be a slow burn on this one. Idk. I may have some time this week to post a median 5 salary for each team (for display purposes). Or just the best marquee names within the top 10 salaries for that capsule. This might give it some teeth in showing the core 5 talent spread out. And I may go ahead and claim the 41-43 team as some of those 40s teams//players aren’t offensive juggernauts- take what could be harder to fill. We shall see.

You choose whatever you want from that era for your core 5 (just ensure its a top 10 salary at each position for ANY of the years in the capsule). So it could be the 22nd overall best salary when running a 3 year query, but as long its a top 10 for any 1 year in your era.

I claimed the 41-43 team with the same names/units on the example given. May change it later. Let me know if you have questions. Its was really fun generating this list. There are some really great foundational cores to choose from. Post yours and let the fun begin!

This is a really cool idea and I'm looking forward to it but are a lot of guys not up to the challenge or what?

Maybe, the timing was not the greatest. I remember the draft league took awhile to get some traction. And this theme concept had the kitchen sink thrown at it with all the moving parts.

You see baseball leagues with all kinds of neat angles to mix the game up. I thought football could use an option like this. Either way it goes, we will give it some time.

And with the posting of a core 5, if it’s correct, I’ll just update the team to the initial post. Does not require my official blessing. More administrative on my part and much less commissioner.
