I just had a freshman in the D1 Knight league declare for the NBA draft even though his NBA projection was and still is “staying.”

Has anyone dealt with this? Had I known this was possible I would’ve have recruited a bit differently.
Staying still means "likely staying". The odds are tremendously low but still possible. They're so low that I wouldn't have let it sway your recruiting imo.

Congrats on the Knight title!

If you have a stud freshmen and win the natty, you may lose him. Had it happen twice in Wooden and both were staying.

Good to know. I had no idea. Seems like the “staying” designation should be changed to “likely staying” if there’s any chance at all that they leave. It’s a bit misleading otherwise.

In Knight (coincidentally) I also had a freshman leave EE who was listed as "staying", but worse than your situation. Bucknell season 178, Mitchell Brown. He was drafted 22 overall. I didn't even make the NT and did not win the PI that year either. I wish I could remember where he was ranked in the draft bid board, but I'd guess he was top 50.

Had to just take it on the chin and move on. Oh well.
