Distribution with Triangle.. Topic

Any suggestions on how to set the distro when running a triangle offense?

I think somethings up with the triangle... both my triangle teams played much worse then they should.

I am not sure if my team is playing worst than they should. They are however the best team I have had in the 3 years I have been here and they are playing far worse than the previous teams..

I run the triangle, and my team can't score to save its life.

texas, check out ahausla's "Compendium of HD Offenses" pinned thread. It gives a pretty in-depth discussion of the triangle and how it should be distributed. Good luck.

Texas, this is what I settled into while running the triangle for the first time. It worked out pretty well, and I've used it as a baseline for the Triangle, motion or flex.

Starters Distribution: 16-16-16-10-6

Bench Distribution: 12-8-8-4-2-1-1

Generally speaking, I aim to get a Gaurd, Post and my SF into the 16 distribution spot, w/ a backup post in the 12, and backup gaurd and SF in the 8 distribution spots off the bench.

However, I'll always tweak the spots of emphasis towards my strength and against my opponents weaknesses. Sometimes team makeup will require/enable me to alter the distribution a bit as well, but the general guideline has worked pretty well. Of course some will say the general setup doesn't make that much of a difference that the talent level matters more, so take it for what its worth.

Interesting, taz. Have you ever noticed a difference if the post 16 is to the PF or C?

I run triangle distribution quite similar to that of other offenses. I've had success with both guards being 20+ or both big guys over 20+.

On paper, this offense should show increased numbers for the two perimeter and one lowpost players in the triangle. I really haven't noticed that result/limitation as it relates to HD.

One thing I have noticed, to answer jskenner question, is that the C seems to out produce the PF in this offense.

I always thought the triangle was an Offense that had the most options as far as distro goes; primarily because it seems like you're free to make them as high as you want them to be for one individual person (whereas I don't like having people set to 0 distro in Motion or Flex obviously). I usually just use numbers 1-5, with 3-5 being my scorers and 1 or 2 being primarily role players, or average scorers, or underdeveloped players, or whatever. I keep my distro pretty simple and have had some success, primarily with 2 or 3 of my players averaging in the 12-16 point range. I made the D3 NC game running Triangle a few weeks ago.

preferrably, I like the C to by my 16, and the PF to be a rebounding role player as the 4th or 5th option, but I've had both set to the 16 dist role when the talent level indicates it or the matchup favors me in the post.

In the end, I don't think it matters much if you use the PF or the C in that primary role, I think my belief is mostly on circumstancal (sp?) evidence that just happened to match up w/ my recruited talent.
