So I just took over this team, signed a few new hitters . Just looking for any input on batting order, defensive positions and I was thinking of platooning 1B (Glynn and Wall). I also realize I'm currently sans shortstop but I'm probably just going to get a defensive one in the R5.

DH?

Hitters park or pitchers park or neutral?

I assume Turnbow throws right and is your 3B?

FYI I completely disregard speed/baserunning when creating a lineup and generally go for OBP at the top two followed by power.

Your team lacks a backup 3B (or just one in general), defense in CF (unless Turnbow plays there, then it's adaquete) and defense at 2B.

I suggest trading Glynn for a solid 3B.

Just my .02 (for which MikeT will start another thread) is that 2B gets more chances than 3B, so I'd put Turnbow (if he's RH) over there.

Good point, though a 70 D isn't too terrible. I found a guy with 69 who has a career .979 fielding percentage:

While 87 got this guy a .983 fielding percentage:

You'd think the disparity would result in a larger difference...

Weird set of players, about 5 LFs that can hit at least a little. I'd try--

Clapp in LF, he's genuinely good there. Wall at 1B; that's about an average bat for that position. Hernandez in RF, although the arm sucks; you have to get the bat into the lineup. Platoon Glynn and James at C. It's not ideal but it's what you've got. Trading Glynn to an AL team to be their DH against LHP isn't a bad thought; he'll help somebody in that role as long as he's cheap. Play Turnbow in CF for now and eat the 15 (-) plays; he brings more than 15 extra doubles to the lineup, anyway.

3B and 2B are a mess. The least bad thing to do with the remaining guys is play Ruebel at 3B (the arm blows, but what else can you do?) and Bierbrodt at 2B (horrifying). Look for a really good glove at SS and try to upgrade at 2B as well. Getting a defensive CF to replace Turnbow liberally (any lead, 7th or 8th inning) would help, too.

Gonzalez might have a little trade value to a guy that wants to steal 400 bases. Berra might have a little value to somebody that needs a one-year solution as a platoon LF. Cruz isn't a major league player. And I don't know that you can carry DeSoto with all the MI defense you're going to need on your bench.

That help?

Edit-- Turnbow throws .

To add to the trade Glynn bit, James has a 97 Dur and can handle the full load of responsibility at C as long as he stays healthy. He hits both R and L pretty well and is solid defensively.

This all makes Glynn a nice to have. Get rid of him for the best 2B/3B you can get. Turnbow at CF/2B makes tons of sense. Turnbow's bat in CF definitely makes up for his lack of range.

If Turnbow is LH, then I guess he's your CF.

Unless you're uncleal...
