Other things to consider:

1) When playing an elimination game, it should be all hands on deck. A more aggressive pull rating for your pitchers, and everybody available to pitch in the bullpen (unless it's not a game 5/7, where you'll need to hold back a SP for the next game).

2) Cut back or (better yet) disable position player rest settings in the post season. Everybody should be available to play every inning, no matter the score. The only in-game replacements should be due to pinch-hitters, pinch-runners or defensive replacements. But nobody should be removed from the game to "give the starter a rest".

3) Adjust your base-stealing settings according to the other teams catcher.

4) Pitching tends to be a little more important in the post-season. Better pitching --> less scoring --> each run is more valuable. Put some thought into how aggressively you want to bunt.

It's a crapshoot ... Much like real life it's a case of getting there over and over again. Sometimes you can just be unlucky and lose games you should win.

>> I agree completely. I've had great regular seasons, but have yet to make a World Series.

I also find that dominant hitting will help you during the reg. season, post season is set up for dominant pitching.

>> I wish this were true. My teams often have the best ERA and WHIP in the AL, but it hasn't gotten me squat.

Just get your best players the most ABs and IP, and let the chips fall where they may.

That is to say, a dominant pitcher will have more of an effect than a dominant position player.

Say you have an ace who will get you two wins in a 5-game series, or 3 in a 7-gamer... now you just have to figure out how to coax one more win with the rest of your staff.

I have what is probably the best pitcher in the world and he got blown up in game 1.

Bad luck?

Of course, the regular season is when you face good AND bad teams, and a bad start can get lost in the shuffle....
