Player under contract retiring? Topic

Has anybody seen a majorleaguer under contract choosing to retire?

Lou Marte was under contract for S6 and he retired. He had been waived by a previous owner last season and I picked him up with a year still in his contract. He retired, and somehow his current owner is only paying him 25% of the contract. Am I missing something? The previous owner did have a team option on him, but that shouldn't have had anything to do, should it?

I did not realize they had implemented this much needed update!!

You must've been reading my mind cuz I was JUST wondering if WIS ever implemented this update. This is the FIRST I've heard of this though.

He was released by the previous team. Releasing a guy who's on a contract with a team or mutual option invokes an automatic decline of the option year.

So technically, he was no longer under contract when he retired.

tec- I see. Thanks. That probably explains it. I signed him for the league min in Season 5 after being released in the first year of a 2-yr contract. I guess his team option being automatically rejected wound up nullifying "my" contract as well, he took his option cash and retired.

I think that is the youngest I seen a player retire that played at the major league level the season before.

It says 14 pro years- yet he only played seasons 1-5. What league was he in before this one? California Penile?
