We are hiring coaches. All the good 1b Coaches were taken. I noticed a good 3b Coach was available so I offered him the job. He has me listed as #1, the signings have not started yet.

Will that be a problem, will he preform at a lower level, or will it be the same?

I almosy always sign a 3B coach to be my 1B coach late and for less money than he was asking for.

He will preform based on his ratings. Where he coached previously or wanted to coach has no effect

a lot of people think that the baserunning rating (which is the rating used to identify 1B/3B as a demanded position) is much ado about nothing (moreso for the 1B coach)

as such, lots of people just hire a AAA demanding hitting or bench coach to fill that role with the thought that the high non-baserunning ratings help more than the poor baserunning rating hurts

I have no idea if the there is merit in the theory, just another approach to coach hiring

Have him turn sideways when coaching, just in case.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. My 1B coach is a guy who wanted a 3B coaching job, but he's still got a half-decent Hitting rating (60) to go along with his 72 Baserunning.
