LoA Roster: 30 Active? Topic

Considering the durability levels of LoA guys, what are peoples' thoughts on having a 30 man active roster like the Rookie level? I feel as if I have to constantly monitor this level for fatigue. It also could keep stats in check with more rested pitchers. Unsure of how difficult it would be program, but assuming not very.

I have no problems with a 25 man roster.

It's not necessary.

You can have simmy handle your pitchers and position players. As long as you have a full roster (25 active, 10 inactive), you should be fine. Simmy will shuffle people between active/inactive as needed.

The only thing you have to watch for is to make sure that your good prospects stay active. Checking once a day should be adequate.

Rookie needs to have more than 30 spots.

Actually, it kills me that rookie requires 28; I always have 2-3 pitchers that pitch zero innings. 10 hitters and 12-15 carefully chosen pitchers will do; it's only 76 games.

Huh? Recommends 28, maybe, but it only requires enough to field a lineup and a bare pitching staff.

The problem for those having problems in Low A or Rookie (or any other level) is not enough durability/stamina. If you only have Setup pitchers, 25 of them won't be enough. I make sure I have at least eight pitchers of 60 stamina or more.. usually 10-12.

Much of the pitching fatigue issues in LoA and RL would be avoided if the tryout camp pool was well stocked with 25+ Dur/ 70+ stamina guys with decent enough control and splits to get thru 4-6 innings per start, maybe 30+ control and splits at least in the 20s. Career minor leaguers for sure, but these types shouldn't be pitching above LoA, and after 3 -4 seasons in RL and LoA they often retire, needing to be replaced.

Simply making more of these guys available couldn't hurt.

jsturgis-- if you don't have 25 it will sign your draftees until you get to 28. If you don't have 28 after the draft lists drop (or after the draft, I forget which), it won't let you bid on an int'l if the bid takes you below $6M in prospect. That what I meant (admittedly, unclearly) by "requires" 28.

And you're completely right about the stamina issue; that's what I meant by "carefully chosen."

The way I look at it, you could carry up to 19 pitchers in Rookie League since your position players almost never tire. 9 regulars, 2nd catcher, decent glove to cover other spots = 11.

No it doesn't. Not if you fill your roster correctly.

What are peoples fellings on setting pos. players with good enough control and splits to pitch in relief? I have noticed that some of my bench pos. players are as good as some of my try-out camp pitchers.

That's right.

No way. There are plenty of pitchers to go around. Don't pull a Canseco.

At rookie and Low A, having your long relievers with enough stamina to start always helps. I have found that drafting more starters than relievers and keeping one or two career low-A starters around to fill the back of the staff works well to keep the staff fresh.
