From the recent update..."Major League free agent demands will be adjusted to better fit their potential market value."

I have a world almost done with free agency and have noticed that player demands haven't been going down as they had in previous seasons. I realize its possible that they have offers on the table, but I had a cheap backup C sign the following cycle after receiving the offer and his demands hadn't changed since day 1.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you think this was a desired change or a programming error?

That update doesn't happen until 11/3.

It's not a new phenomenon but also not too widespread. If I follow a dozen FAs on my target list, I'll usually see one who doesn't come down like the rest, isn't involved in a bidding war, and doesn't get signed. I haven't looked closely enough at factors like patience or temper to see if they're involved.

I've noticed this also, you need to wait until around the Rule V and then their asking price will finally start going down.

I sent in a ticket and they didn't seem concerned with it.

If somebody tries to lowball a free agent, his demands won't drop (because he got an offer) but he won't sign, so it'll look like he's just sitting there forever holding out for his number.

I've seen owners make lowball offers as a strategy -- in other words, not to try to sign a guy, but to keep his asking price from dropping. I think it's a flaw in the game, actually.

If you offer his asking price, then withdraw it, same thing. His demands won't drop for quite a while. I suspect that's what's happening when owners don't see a decline.

I know a few tickets were sent on the lowball/withdrawn problem several seasons ago and we all got a "this doesn't happen" response. It's probably still an undiagnosed glitch.

And yes, whatever causes the problem usually gets reset around Rule5 time for most if not all of these cases. Still, we end up with some marginal 6 year FA prospects being priced way too high on Opening Day.

Interesting...Thanks for the responses...I originally noticed because my type-A SS was good enough to be signed but not for his asking price...I'd imagine that it fixes by the rule 5 because by that time FA's accept or decline immediately...Rule 5 just passed and the demands have dropped significantly
