How much accuracy is there in the assistant coach's overall opinion of a player in those scouting reports? A couple of examples...

*Overall, I think he'll be a solid Division II player. Can't see many of the big boys up in D1 going after him.

*Overall, I think with some work, he'll be a decent Division II player - although he would probably sign with the right DIII school - I don't think there's anyway he'll see an offer from a DI school.

Are they mostly useful to gauge possible levels for the prospect, or do they indicate potential?

Actually, the don't indicate anything, you can ignore them.

They kinda guage the level of the talent...and where the started the recruiting season....as a D2 guy, a borderline D2/D3 guy, etc. Thats about it.

Yeah, kind of ... but even then, they're not telling you a thing you don't already know. If you're a DII school contacting a potential DI dropdown, the message you get doesn't give you any info that's new, useful or relevant. It's nothing that you need to be putting even a tiny bit of stock into.

Exactly - they aren't a ton of use for experienced coaches, but for newer coaches, especially those who just moved up a level, it can be a decent hint that you are aiming too low.
