Trades and the demotion penalty Topic

I have a pitcher swap in progress which for me means that I would normally put that pitcher on rest. But due to a combination of injuries and long games, I don't have very many pitches available for my next 2 games at 100%. Can I place the pitcher I am trading away on waivers or somehow get him out of my way so I can call up another pitcher for the 25 man roster without risking a demotion penalty for his new club's owner?

No. If you waive or demote him, it will void the trade.

... and then you can just reinstate the trade if your trading partner agrees to it.

If the trade is accepted it will go through before he clears waivers, therefore it would be pointless to waive him, because you will have the new pitcher before you will be able to call up one.

Could you designate for assignment, not waive the player, and then pull a guy up to the ML for 1-2 HBD while the trade goes through? A designated player can be traded, so I'm not sure why you couldn't...

Heck, let him pitch, what is the worst that can happen?

If you put him on waivers, he could be claimed. That would really screw up your trade. The worst that could happen, in answer to eeyore, is that he gets injured. I always deactivate MiLers and rest MLers while waiting for a trade to go thru.
