paj, who knows your off/def systems better? I think that determines which you take, if one is significantly better in one or both.

B (Houtchens) by a long shot - he's +19 in ATH, +13 REB, +21 BLK, +9 PASS, and +20 STAM vs a big drop in DEF plus horrible (instead of bad) PE and BH. Player A (Taylor) would be a better guard, but they're there to play center, so B is a definite winner, even with the big defensive drop.

Houtchens is probably a B+ in motion, a B- in triangle, an A- in man and a C in press.

Taylor is an A- or B+ in motion and B+ or so in man and press.

So for a motion/man like you run, pajama, IQ wouldn't be a factor. However, that does make the 94 DEF look stronger... I still prefer B, though.

It depends on what you need him for. If he is a 1 year player chances are you need him as a role player, so pick what you need him to do the most and go with the guy highest in that area. If you are looking to use him a little at PF player A would be a good choice.

The other arguement to be made is, whichever one you can sign cheaper. More than likley this guy will play 8-10 minutes for 1 year. Sign him on the cheap and spend more money on 4 year players.

cburton makes a great point. Unless you can sign your chosen player for next to nothing, he's not worth jeoparizing other long-term talent. Good luck.

And cornfused is probably right. For just one year, B can get rebounds, block or change a few shots, and not get pushed around as much as A (with the 17 ATH). His 42 DEF is much less than optimal, but he won't be playing enough for opposing coaches to game plan a #1 scoring option against him. And with the low ATH, A wouldn't be called on to score anyway, so his strengths, relative to B, are much less important.

I'd go with B, only if you can get him for next to nothing a hv/cv/st + ship? Otherwise take the walkon, you do not need 12 players.

Or unless signing the 12th player will somehow give you more than $15k carryover (so at least $60k remaining).

Does it make any difference that I would want to start him and I am in DII.
10/26/2009 5:54 PM
pajamainc, if you're starting him, you MIGHT consider player A if you run man. His ATH is just SO low, so you might still go with B, and switch him off any good post scorer. When you play a team with 2 starting post scorers, that will be trouble. And I think since he'd start, this makes his IQ, especially on Def, even more important, since he'll need to carry his own weight from day 1. Good luck.

Flip player A Ath/speed and its somewhat close. As is its player B and not even close.

neither
