Too many leagues....not enough players Topic

Gusv, I think you should go to the Non-Live Fourms and try to recruit new players.

How about this. Join some new leagues and give new guys a chance. I had what I thought was a great league idea, pick a year from 1960-2009, then draft 6/6 waa aaa guys from 30 years before to complement the chosen yar. Good mix of old and new. Got exactly 1 response.

Roger, I understand that you are upset. I saw your league. Wasn't interested. It seems that we don't let new guys in but that isn't true. Anyone can create and fill a league in sim world because there are so many players to fill a league. Here in LIVE, we maybe have a core group of guys of around 50. Thats alot of leagues to fill with very few people to fill them. We love having new guys around, if you would join a league and play, you would see that we have some very cool guys on here. I know it stinks that we can't fill leagues, but join one of the other leagues that are close to filling and maybe you can sell your idea by talking to other owners.

Part of the problem I am having is I have limited resources (time and money). Therefore I can't join every league out there. There are a few which I stay in ( a couple opf progressives) and then I have cycled between the other themes, I even took a few seasons off of USA baseball and played other things. USA baseball was the 2nd league I ever joined and thats where I cut my teeth and learned how to play.

We need more people interested in LIVE. Even if those people only play one LIVE league at a time it will start to add up. I play both LIVE and non-live and from what I have seen that is fairly rare. I will see if I can drum up a little interest as well.

Everything Bastan says is true, but there is some degree of importance on how long you've been around. I posted a LIVE OL a few weeks ago and got very little interest. the_dance07 just reposted his 90 mil win-a-TOC league - a league I believe he started running after playing in a non-LIVE league by the same name that I ran - and already received more bites than I got. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. When you're committing to reach a LIVE minimum, you're not only committing the team but also a lot of your time. It makes sense that people need a greater sense of trust in the commisioner, developed over time, before they're going to be totally comfortable joining his leagues.

That being said, I could really use some help filling the Favorite Player League.

Next season of Arvid's 120M franchise league still has A's, Braves, Indians, KC, Pirates available ... A mediocre player like me finished 2nd with 4 of the above five teams (never had KC, but it has done well with others)! ... May draft from old teams (such as Philadelphia A's and the Milwaukee Braves) ... Or you can combine any two of the last four expansion teams (Marlins, Rays, Rockies, D-backs)! ...

One suggestion I have is to decrease LIVE minimums from 60 games to 20-30. I used to play LIVE all the time, but due to time constraints, I am not able to be on as much as I used to; therefore, I am unable to make minimums of 60. I think we could attract some of the SIM players if LIVE minimums were decreased. I still like to get on and play LIVE, but the 60 game minimum is too much of a commitment. Just one owners opinion.....

I think that is a good idea tajohn. I guess some of us could try that and see what happens. My only worry though is a lot of live players like to play most of their games, at least 2/3 of the schedule. If too many players in a league got to 20 or 30 and then stopped, it becomes more of a sim game that I for one dislike because of all the different settings, etc.

I do however, think it might help, bring some sim players to this side of the fence.

Good point, Bastan. I know I have had teams in the past that seemed to be more successful in SIM games than LIVE (course that may be because I am a terrible LIVE manager), but I wouldn't think SIM players would intentionally draft good SIM players, if that is even possible. I personally think that playing more LIVE games can help you during the course of the season because you can manipulate subs, pitching, etc.....

I have played in just about all the popular LIVE leagues at least once or twice, and frankly, you have to be pretty committed and put away a decent block of time to play in USA, UNO, etc....to manage your team with success....

I have just recently been playing SIM theme leagues, and there are some really good players and nice guys out there that just don't get into LIVE for whatever reason. There are quite a few leagues on the SIM side open as well, but if you set high LIVE minimums, you are going to see the same 15-16 die hard LIVE players and no new blood.

Agree in the BastanRedSox / tajohn discussion above. Bringing the LIVE minimum to 20 games may encourage some in the SIM leagues crowd to come play in the LIVE leagues ... one of the SIM league owners tried that once in a DECADES league that I joined, but at the end of the season, he and his followers decided to go back into converting their league to a SIM league (0 live games) ...

I personally dont even see the point of playing this game unless its live...

Nothing could be more boring to me than to play NON Live...

But for people who dont have the time, to each is own...

I like the challange of being the Live manager better than just seeing who did what, after the fact, each day...
