So I am trying to sign a recruit and he gave me the drop down message. So far, he has not told me he has dropped and is still undecided. His latest message is this.


"BTW, I sat next to his uncle at the game and I got the impression that we have a great shot to sign this kid. I think his exact were words were 'you have a great shot to sign this kid'.

Above sounds interested. In the same cycle we get...


"I've been doing this a long time, based on the other coaches in attendance and what I was hearing in the gym, we really don't have a shot unless he gets passed over by the 'big boys'."

and the 3rd one - still the same cycle (evals)

Now, has he dropped? Did I pull him down, but for some reason he isn't considering me? Is he still a drop down ( still on div I screen for me.)

The mix messages confuse me.

I've always took message 1 and 3 to mean he is open to your recruitment, and is no longer a back-up. Response 2 is odd though.

I always thought the same. In fact, I always thought that the third message meant he would be considering you by now.

Odd, he accepted my campus visit + promises this cycle so I must did enough for him to open up to me, but not enough for him to consider me? Never seen anything like it. He is still on my div I search (just double checked) so its not like he dropped to me and just didn't e mail me.

If he accepted your campus visit and promises, then you definitely pulled him down. Though I agree that it's odd he's not considering you.

Did you offer him a scholarship? I'm only asking because I received similarily positive messages from a DI pulldown (not message #2) during last recruiting cycle in Smith, but didn't get him to consider me until I offered him the scholarship.

Nope, and still have not gave him a 'ship offer. Its weird because the last cycle I gave him a promise start, mins, campus visit and 2 more evals. 1 Eval was sounding like he really wanted to sign, other sounded like back up message. The start got accepted, the mins got denied with a "I don't know enough about your program" message and the campus visit got accepted.
