Will a Type A FA Resign? Topic

I would like to resign my closer. He would not negotiate last season, the last year of his contract. I resigned myself to having to let him go. We just rolled over though, and now it shows he's a type A asking 5 mil/yr and will play for whoever shows him the money. I'm trying to set a budget, and my question is; will he resign if I offer him his demands or is he destined to go on the open market, regardless of what I offer?

I'm PRETTY SURE that he's going to go on the open market regardless. I have been suckered into that in the past at least 2 different times. Same exact thing happened and I figured I would be able to resign him due to that message but that was not the case. I am pretty certain that you will have to bid on him just like anyone else would once free agency starts unfortunately.

That happened to me as well during the roll over of one of my worlds. He will test free agency, make sure you budget accordingly

That's what I thought. I was hoping he might sign, but I had a feeling it was wishful thinking.

If his rating went down at all, the likelihood that he will resign will increase

If he is saying he will play for whoever shows the money that means he is going to test the market.

If he was willing to resign he would say something like "I am willing to stay just make me a offer"

I have 3 type A FA and 1 Type B FA. 1 type A and the type B were willing to resign last season but I passed at the time. Now all 4 say they will play for whoever shows them the money. Does that mean that none will be willing to resign now? I'm ok with that, but if so it does affect my budgeting in a big way. ie: Prospect budget, scouting, and salary.

What it means is if you choose to keep the player you will have to bid for the player on the open market against the other 31 teams.

So, not wanting to bid on the open market, I should up my draft scounting, and need to budget for the extra draft picks. Thanks.

seems to me that in real life guys might say they want to test the open market but if their current team offered them enough they would certainly sign the contract. in HBD, its all or nothing

Has anyone ever seen a player who was going to be a FA the next season who was willing to resign during the season, but refused to after rollover? Seems like a somewhat likely scenario: you waited to long to sign me, now I am ****** and testing the market.

Yes, i had a top notch SP on his last year saying he would test free agency, but I still had the option the offer a contract, even though he had no demands requirements. I offered him a multi year with top money and he accepted. Not sure if that was a glitch, or if that is also an option for a soon to be FA. It has never happened again.

Similar line, just took over a team w/ several free agents. Some pretty solid, others not worth bringing back, all of them say something along the lines of "I'll sign w/ whomever shows me the most money" or something similar.

We're still waiting to roll and have a few spots to fill, will all of this guys go directly to the market, or will I have a chance to resign a few of them, in otherwords, will I get the "I'm open to renewing just make me a deal" type message once the world rolls?

I'm in the resign your own FA period, and have a similar guy. Is there any point offering him anything? I'm going over his demands to try and convince him to sign with me before FA opens up - is there any chance he signs?

So, my closer who refused to negociate last season, after roller resigned with me. I had a message that I would need to overwhelm him with an offer or else he was going FA. He was asking 2 yrs @ 5 mil. I offered 4 yrs @ ave of 5.5 mil and he signed. The other 2 type A's were not willing to negociate before hitting the open market. I guess you never know for sure.
