If you have a player that is arbitration eligible at the beginning of the season, but you don't want to keep him, should you release him or will that be an option once the arbitration is available?

You can release a player anytime you want, but you'll still be on the hook if he has a contract. If the player doesn't have a contract in the case of arbitration, you pay nothing and he becomes a free agent
