I like having a thread where we can all post our rosters as they're being built. Let's see how some of these teams are starting to look....

I'm anchoring my staff with Bob Gibson, who's always come through for me, especially in the 1962 What If Baseball Hadn't Expanded League. Wild Card P Whit Wyatt has a handful of decent seasons, and Chick Fraser brings solid IP to the table. Terry Fox is projected to be my closer for the next few season. Bill Carrick will provide a year's starting pitching to the staff, and Jim Brosnan and Frank Funk will be in the setup role. Also serving as setup men will be John Skopec, Jack Baldschun, Larry Sherry, Ray Moore, and Len Swormstedt.

My infield is anchored up the middle by Jeter and Herzog (who has performed admirably for me in the Old School Progressive). My outfield is patrolled by three deadballers, who should hit for average and provide a lot of speed on the basepaths. I've been using Van Haltren in the Ultimate Progressive League and the Extreme Progressive League. I have two 1991 guys at the corners, 1B Eddie Murray (long a favorite of mine in opens, themes, and progressives), and 3B Chris Sabo. My catcher is Terry Kennedy, who's my catcher in hockeyhead's 1946/1976 dual progressive (currently in 1956/1986). My goal for my bench is to get a 4th OF with some power, a good backup catcher, and two utility guys. I've attained part of that goal with OF Clyde Vollmer and C Bob Boone. MI Gary Sutherland, CI Red Kress, and MI Ivy Olson will serve as utility guys.

With the 15th pick in the first round we knew we'd miss our top goal of a dominant pitcher (Christenson or Cy Young) and then set our sights on Ted Williams but he was snagged at pick 13 and had to settle on the infamous Ed Delahanty. Delahanty is not a perfect fit for our ballpark but he will help us compete anywhere! He's got four 10 mil seasons (which is about four more than the number one pick in the draft (dig dig dig)). We doubled back in the second round with pitcher Doc White, a guy who can help us compete for a dozen seasons. In the third we tabbed Big Mac, Mark McGwire - who in the late 90's puts up seasons of 52, 56, 70, and 65 HRs in consecutive seasons (what do they feed that boy?). We felt quite fortunate to get him in the third as we had him rated as first round talent. In the fourth we settled for P Harry Howell, who was the best deadballer , according to our scouts. In the 5th and 6th we snagged our middle infield of Toby Harrah and Alphonso Soriano. In the 7th, we went for more offense in the person of OF Gus Bell, who also is an excellent outfielder. In the eighth round we grabbed a closer for many seasons in Don McMahon from back in 1961. In rounds 9-14 we took three pitchers, the first a dead ball guy - Dummy Taylor. Then two guys from 61, each who gives 3 good seasons. Those two are John Buzhardt and Gary Bell. Dean Palmer gives us... um, more power. We also added Catcher Ernie Whitt who gives us consistency behind the plate, and Randy Velarde who we see as a SS in the first couple of years but then moves in to be our starting 2B, allowing Alphonso Soriano to move to the OF at some point.

Picking 16th we took HOF'er Jack Chesboro. We were targeting pitching all the way. I never used Chesboro before nikko's BYOP and his 02 year is tearing it up. His big 04 year excites me. Second round we got Hugh Duffy who went from being a 1st rounder in the 1st Super Draft to a second rounder. We hope that he brings his Hall of Fame bat and a chip on his shoulder for being a second rounder. Another reason for taking him was his big 1894 season, in the same year for as Chesboro's big year. After messing up the third round pick and not taking Phillipe when the clock struck 12 and hitting submit, we took import Ichiro Suzuki. This league lacks big two things, stolen bases (well high %'s, since those old timers like trying a lot and failing) and high average. It will be interesting to see how this league fares without them. It was tough taking the wildcard so early when I planned on it being my last pick, I couldn't pass on a guy who, more than likely, will fight for the batting title, runs title, and stolen base title for the next decade, all while playing great defense. With a lot of pitching available we drafted quality over some pitchers with more innings or longer careers by taking Pedro Martinez as the wild card. My favorite in the SIM, Pedro is coming off a career year in 2000 and will go back and forth between starter and closer over his career, providing excellent WHIP, K's and ERA. With the team shaping up, I took a pitcher with a longer career who matched his best years with the team-Camilo Pascual. We like his high k's and consistency. In the 6th we drafted fellow Seton Hall alum Mo Vaughn, power hitter in the mid 90's. Going back to pitching, we took a few good years of Ralph Terry who does well when we do. 8th round pick is HOF'er Wade Boggs, who will fight with Ichiro and Duffy for a batting title in year one, and has a great 94 campaign.
