I'm trying to decide if I want to continue in a world. I want to move up to D1 in that world which is the only reason I'm still in it at this point. I wasn't qualified last season (which was surprising to me) and after a back and forth with CS I was told that I was "very close". So the season ended with a PI final four finish. Assume this qualifies me. If I'm not qualified I'm done with the world since I currently don't have any seasons remaining and am fine with just concentrating on my other two teams.

My question is, is there any advantage to putting another season toward my team and trying to switch schools vs giving up my team and having no association with a school and applying as a free agent school. Not sure if there is a mark on my record for not having a team at the moment or not. I have seen where the prestige doesn't take a hit if you give up a team and sign with a school as a free agent coach where if you go from one school to another you do take a hit. Any thoughts?

The downside is that you will be last in line for jobs, since you don't get to choose a school until after the job application period ends.

But I think you are right about your loyalty (not prestige) grade. If you switch jobs as a "free agent" I don't think you take a loyalty hit.

As a "free agent" coach, he will still apply the same as an incumbent coach. The downside is not having a school to fall back on if he gets denied for all of his applications.

I think that srunstro is correct here, at least according to the FAQ. (But sometimes the actual implementation does not agree with what is in the FAQ.)

Q. Do you have to have seasons remaining in order to view job openings?

A. Yes, you must have renewed by the deadline (which is 11:59 pm ET on the day of the National Championship game) in order be able to apply for other jobs. Of course, you could choose to not add a season - in that case you'll be removed as the head coach of your current school and you would be allowed to apply for jobs AFTER the job change period for existing coaches.

EDIT: It is actually not in the FAQ, but it is in the Knowledge Base

No fencer is right... ive done it before you can view the jobs just like a coach in the world but to apply you need to add a season

Fencer is correct. You will be able to apply to jobs during the application process even if you are no longer the coach of a current team.

You are actually disagreeing with fencer, not agreeing.

thanks guys. I ended up giving up my team. Figure I'll take over my alma mater and build it up in that world. D- prestige right now so very much doubt anyone will jump on the school. A good route to go to avoid taking a loyalty hit though, gamble yes but helps a little.

I just did it in Knight. I was out of the game for 2 seasons. When jobs opened up I couldn't see anything. But I added a season and applied like I was looking to move from my old school.

I didn't have to wait for everything else to finish.
