Distro question Topic

I have a player that I set his distro to 8, however through the 11 games this season he is getting a little more than 18% of the offense. I was under the impression that shot attempts resulting from off rebs where not part of this %. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Yes, shot attempts from off rebs are part of the %. So sometimes, bigmen have higher actual distro than what you set them to be.

Also, saying that you set his distro to 8 means nothing. It is all relative to everyone else on the floor. The distro is not a percentage. If everyone on the floor was set to 8, then each player would have equal distro, so would get about 20% of the touches (when they are on the floor, which would be obviously less than 20% of the total for the game). If he is set to 8 and playing with guys so that the sum of the 5 distros on the floor is 80, then he will only get 10% of the touches.

here is the wa i look at it , jl, if a player is shooting more than you want him to shoot, then lower his distro, ....... if he is shooting less than you want him to shoot, increase his distro.

i knwo that seems obvious, but lots of us (oldavey included) get caught up in all the numbers and what they mean and where they come from and how they are calculated. in the end, none of that really matters... just tweak things a little at a time and soon you will find they are shooting about the amount you want them to.

when i am "tweaking" my distros, i normally only change it by 2 pts at a time (for instance, i might move your player above from 8 to 6) and then re-evaluate.

it seems to me like some players are "hard-wired" to shoot more, and so you have to rein them in a bit.

keep in mind that if you change a player from a starter to a sub or vice versa, that is usually going to have a big impact on how many shots he shoots.

i use the same type of idea for tweking my +2....-2 for three pointers. dont just assume that a setting of zero means the same thing for all players... it definitely does not. position (pg, sg, etc) is a huge factor, opponentD is important, and lastly some players just like to shoot more threes than others.

Is it Sweet? If so, he's also playing 32 mins, and getting 4.5 off reb/game. That would explain it.

A quick tip for you: You have precious little depth and reb and your starters play heavy minutes, you should be going slowdown against pretty much everyone, except maybe a bad sim team.

Also, I would suggest you pay more attention to the core categories when recruiting. For instance, signing a center (like Harmon) in the 20's or 30's for rebounding shouldn't really happen.

Thanks for the input guys.

hb, the total for my starters is 66... so when he is on the floor with them thats going to put him at around 12% of the touches and I can see how his off rebs could account for that difference. Also if he is out there with a few bench players, its going to be a little higher. In other words, I pick up what you're laying down lol.

oldave, I'm right there with you. It's not so much that I want to lower his touches, because he's not really doing that bad with a double-double avg, I just wanted to know the why.

dalter, right on the money with Sweet. I will definitely try the slowdown. I hadn't because when I reviewed the play-by-plays, my guys never get beyond "tiring", but I can see that they may be dragging *** in those minutes between the little boxes. Also, Harmon was the last guy I signed that yr. I was running out of time and I needed a big, and he was one of the few that had interest. I know there are a few more like Covington's BH is low, but his pe pot is high. Hopefully Harmon was the only really bad one you saw, however if you read this and it is otherwise let me know if you don't mind.

Like I said thanks guys, getting input from people that know helps.
