OK.......I know I am new and maybe even becoming a pain in the ***.....But, would someone explain to me the "Drop Down" procedure. How do you know what Div.II players will drop down?

Use coach calls. If you get something like, "you might be a backup option" then its a player that will likely drop down. Occasionally some on the margin will give you that message and not drop.

Don't listen to cheez, he doesn't know the first thing about recruiting. Just kidding.

Use player calls, too. If a player rejects your phone calls, then you know he is not interested and will more than likely not drop down.

Big, I miss the Mid-America already. I use the coach calls to at least get some idea of what sets they play. Guess I just got used to it and forgot about the player calls.

Player calls are the way to go, I wouldn't use coach calls.

I start by looking at the DIIs in my area. The ones at the bottom of the list are most likely to drop. Then, i pick the ones I like and begin the calls to see who might be receptive.

I always get a response to my coach calls, don't always with my player calls (just shows I've paid money... sometimes afterward I call the coach and get the backup message).

I assume you mean because some player calls can get rejected, and you're not charged the $10?

But as cheez points out, with the coach calls you get the off/def sets, and that can be nice info if you've got several guys you consider to be relatively equal.

Certainly at DII, with more money to spend, I'd use coach calls. At DIII, you can make a better argument for player calls because the budget is so limited.

ok so then you get the message that you are a backup, but how do you go about trying to pull them down?

personally i send a phone call every once in awhile and eventually they will say something about not getting recruited by the upper level programs and they are interested. You will know it when you see it.

if your program is weak you may not see a lot of drop downs....

Why do you say that zhawks? I always use the coach call and they tell you whether you are a backup option or not. What advantage does the player call give?

They will reject home and campus visits, but scouting trips help them to drop. Only do it to kids close to home, so you can afford it. Many scouting trips needed to pull down and then you may still lose him.
