player distribution Topic

The part of the game I have the most trouble with is player distribution. I would really like to get some coaches ideas as to how they distribute the ball, why they distribute it to certain players, etc. Also do any change their distribution according to the offense they are running. Thanks in advance for any help...

It is going to vary based on what offense you run. Flex and Triangle you can isolate your best offensive players easier. Motion and FB are harder to isolate your best offensive players.

Going off what blhorick said, with my Flex and Triangle teams that I have had, I picked 2 or 3 players on my team that I felt were the best scorers (after leaving the distribution at 0 for the first two exhibition games) and gave them anywhere between 12-16 distro (I had a stud at Lane in Knight that I gave 16 distro right off the bat). With the motion teams I usually have 2 guys with 10 or 12, 2 guys with 8, 2 guys with 6, and then the rest 4, 2 or 0 depending on if they can score or are just there to rebound or defend. Then you can tweak as the season goes along (if a guy shoots 3-11 in the first game, knock his distro down from 7 to 6 for example). Those are just some of the things I do, but a lot of people have had success a number of different ways so its up to you find out what works the best in your system.

You should tailor distribution to your team, not the offense.

You may have a squad with two stud seniors surrounded by younger players. In that situation, the best thing is generally going to be to make sure those to guys get a significant amount of distro. Or you may have a squad with a bunch of upperclassmen, which would call for a more even distro. The most important thing is to play the strengths and weakneses of your roster.

Also, when looking at the % of offense on the Player Game Plan page, remember that includes things like shots from off rebs and steals, which can definitely skew those percentages.

I ignore rational winning distribution and just set everyone to "3". It's easy and I'm lazy. If a conference tourney game may decide a bid to the dance - or I'm in the big dance - Then I'll scout my opponents and, after seeing weaknesses to exploit. usually ignore the weakness and up the distro on my strengths.

My methods usually fail.
