A top prospect in an upcoming draft has great ratings accross the board, offensively, defensively and most of the other ratings as well. (Scouting=15)

I have no shot at the guy anyway but I'm real curious to see how a player with 100 speed and only 3 baserunning will perform on the basepaths. He'll probably have a very poor SB success rate, but how many times will he get caught trying to take an extra base. In what other ways will that combo hurt his team?

Will he forget not to run on popups and flyballs with less than 2 outs? Will he forget to touch second base on his way to third?

He'll do a Vince Coleman and get run over by the tarp.

There was a thread about this last year and I think the consensus was its better to have a guy with 3 speed and 100 baserunning as opposed to what you're looking at.

That said, if his other hitting and defensive ratings are"great" why wouldn't you take a shot on him?

Exactly, if he has "great" ratings then you probably aren't drafting him for his baserunning as he would probably be more valuable for his defense and hitting. I'm not worried about how well my cleanup hitter runs the bases. If wins or losses depend on how well my cleanup guy runs the bases or how successful he is at stealing, then I have bigger problems.

If you have a guy getting caught stealing 40 times a year that won't bother you?

Throttle back your base stealing agressiveness and it shouldn't be a problem.

You wouldn't want him on team where the base running aggressiveness is higher than 3. It's quite possible he might get caught 30-40 times.

I've got a guy who's a 10 in BR. He's not fast so basestealing is not in question, but he doesn't seem to run the bases all that badly. Just station to station.

Its a shame there is no stat that keeps track of extra bases taken and times caught taking the extra base. Kinda like +/- plays for baserunning.

Go to his individual steal setting and set it to zero.

This player will give you an idea of what to expect.
