+ plays at 2B vs CF Topic

where would, say, a 90/80/50/50 get more plus plays- 2B or CF?

before the most recent update i would have said CF, but + plays at 2B seem to be on the up and up as of late. i only have a few small samples to work with though, so i'm curious what everyone else has been seeing.

What's the other option? CF may take away doubles where a 2B takes away a single, so even if they're the same, CF is the way to go, all being equal.

If your other guy is 85/85 though, I'd put him at CF because he'll be making less errors.

Yes.

93/88 with 900 innings at CF:

93/88 with 900 innings at 2B:

10+ plays each, 2B had a minus play somehow..

Any questions?

I don't have any hard data, but casual observation leads me to believe that the number of plus plays for a CF will increase in a non-linear positive fashion as his range rating goes up.

My CF in Mantle, Amos Taylor (92/81/92/88) had 16 plus plays in CF last season in 933 innings and won a Gold Glove.

Any idea if AA and AS factors into + plays in CF or 2B? I'd like to think they give you more OF assists, but have never seen evidence of that.

I would think that AS would factor into plus/minus plays, while AA would show itself more in errors.

I'm probably in the minority on this but I completely ignore AA and AS ratings for OFs. I've seen 0 evidence that they matter.

EDIT: They do matter for IFs and I've witnessed that, but until I see a throwing error for an OF, AA and AS mean nothing to me.

here are the small samples i'm working with:

Carlos Almonte has 5 plus plays in just 130 innings at 2B with 92/79/83/88 ratings and just 2 in 186 CF innings

and Shooter Leonard has a surprising 7 plus plays in 482 innings with just 82/79/57/68

FYI the 900 innings listed in my research above is from a world that started regular season games the day after the update was implemented.

It's true. You never see an OF throwing error. All OF E's seem to be dropped balls, which is pretty unrealistic and needs to be addressed. I'm pretty sure that in RL, there are far more OF throwing E's than dropped balls.

I always see plays where outfielders will narrowly beat (or not beat) a runner and I'm sure that has a lot to do with their arm. Forgetting plus and minus plays for a second, if a really strong arm will allow an OF to gun down tons of runners at the plate (or going for an extra base) then OF arms definitely matter.
