bringing him up now will screw your plan of waiting 20 days next year as he'll have 72 days or whatever already on his service time so you'd have to wait 20 days plus what he's already accumulated. The same goes for september call-ups.

coolio - yup that is my point.. Do I bring him up now and wait the X+20 days next year to try to make a playoff run, or do I wait until next year and stick to the plan. I want to take into account his progression, but it seems like most people dont think his progression will take a hit at the ML level.

you actually only need to wait something like 5 + X days.

you need 172 days to count for a full year and the HBD season is 176 days long. so technically, 5 days in the minors is enough, but if a player is called up after spending <20 games in the minors, they get transferred to his ML total. since 20 is the minimum "chunk" of time that can be spent in the minors, that's the magic # for delaying arb.

so if you have him on your team for the last 75 days, you only need to wait an extra 60 (if i have the numbers straight) next year to not tick towards arb. but that's a bit of a pain, so i would just call him up and leave him up.

Are you asking people if you should attempt to make the playoffs? Seriously?
12/18/2009 3:59 PM
I was waiting for the Mike response... no, im not asking that, im asking if bringing him up now will have an affect on his progression moving forward, and furthermore if bringing him up this year, then having him start next year in AAA will have any affect. If I dont bring him up I will continue to look for an offensive upgrade outside of my team.

No, it will not affect his progression.

Yes, it will affect his service time.

You're welcome.

Mike T don't be a jerk, jerk

Those are the answers he was seeking. What's jerky about that, ***?

I was responding to your prior message, about the playoffs. Jerk

Well, it's a stupid question, dumbass.

Should I try to make the playoffs? This guy will really help me but I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me decide?

The question wasn't about trying to make the playoffs. It was about service time and progression, more specifically next year. Sorry if I miworded it and gave the impression of me being on the fence about making the playoffs.
12/18/2009 4:20 PM
No problem. It started out about progression/service time and morphed into making the playoffs when you said something along the lines of "playoffs this year but WS in 2-3 years". Seems like a silly question. Make the playoffs, take your chances. My best teams have lost in the playoffs. But I've won 2 WS with teams I didn't think were better than my opponents.
12/18/2009 4:24 PM
I hear you.. Get in and take your chances. Not making the playoffs this year doesn't do me any good as I have already started building my team to contend. I just don't want to risk the long term ability of a player if I don't have to. If there was a risk on his progression I'd rather wait and make a trade for a rental player this year.
12/18/2009 4:29 PM
I tend to agree with Mike...some people worry about "later" too much, just go for it and what happens happens.
