Need help D2 Recruiting Topic

Okay brand new to D2 and I need some help to get underway. What is the typical recruit budget for every big signing?

Whats the average and best things to look at in recruits? I mean is someone in the high 450's and up a good place to start? or should I set my expectations higher with a B rated school?

Any tips and tricks you can give me will be greatly appreciated, I am in Knight and this is my first D2 job ever. Never been the best at recruiting but seemed to get by.

Oh by the way I have A+ Loyalty and A+ Rep if that matters that much

D2 recruiting isn't much different from D3. You just have more money.

Ignore the ratings and look at the same core values you liked in D3.

If you're coveting a player on your D1 list, you rarely will be able to sign a C or PF at a rating of 170 or better. PG's are even more difficult. SF and SG can go a little higher; SF sometimes in the 120-130 range. I rarely sign a SG better than 160.

One more thing I never ran a Zone D-fence, always ran press whats the benefit of Zone and what should I look for in recruits.

With 6 new players, you're gonna struggle anyway. If you prefer the press, suck it up and use it.

The attraction to zone is that you can usually hide one bad defender.

The other thing I like about zone: Two types of defense available for the price of one in the 2-3 and the 3 - 2

I would suggest that you work your way into a press/zone by practicing both. After a couple of seasons you can decide to go all press if you hate the zone. The biggest benefit I have found for the zone is that your starters can play longer without tiring. If you have 6 Freshmen, you will be better able to get by with a zone. If you get your class sizes more or less balanced, you would be better able to play press without giving too many minutes to Freshmen.

The 2-3 zone gives up a lot of 3's and the 3-2 gives up lots of rebounds/tip ins. Pick your poison.

In D2, I recruited a center with a 471 rating (not ranked), red-shirted him, then he won national freshman of the year the following year along with several other accolades over his career.

He played 3 years with a PG I recruited with a 522 rating (ranked 165). That PG got national player of the year his SR year and drafted 28th in the NBA draft.

So while ratings and rankings are a neat number to look at, they mostly are misleading.

Ya the overal number is about impossible to look at. I tried last winter making up an excel file for each position but still haven't gotten it down yet so that you could just plug in the numbers and you would get a real overall number that meant something lol.

Thanks for the help so far guys. Also alblack thats part of the reason I asked about the zone cause I plan on switching but since I have 6 freshman than I thought I might want to stick with the zone.

When your saying the ranking are you saying overall or are you saying in that position by the way?

Very very unlikely that you are going to be able to recruit a kid with an overall ranking at D2.

Or several bad defenders.

The 2-3 zone is also the best at defending the interior.
