This is hilarious. I am new to HBD still, but explain this.

2nd round draft pick. Asks for 950k in bonus. I offer. His agent says think about it, may go back to college. I start raising my offers, all the way up to 5 million!!! Each time agent says he will think about it. Anyway, I post on my league board about it and guys say to offer less cause it doesn't matter. I lower offer back down to 2 million.

Just got a message from the agent. Mr. Maxwell has decided to possibly sign if you up your offer to 1.65 million. Meanwhile they rejected my 2 million dollar offer. Just awesome. Look below

When a player refuses your first offer, just wait him out. If he's willing to sign, he'll either (a) sign with his initial demand, or (b) come bck with a new demand.

Offering him more money WILL NOT influence his decision to sign. Just wait him out. It may take a day or two, or it may take up to a week.

As stupid as it is, that is exactly the way it works. Don't waste your time "haggling" with them, just wait until they come back with a yes or no and new demands.

Will you only get a compensation pick for a 1st rounder that doesn't sign? Or are there compensations for 2nd or 3rd rd's?

You'll get Type D picks for unsigned 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks, provided you meet their initial demands and they reject your offer.

The Type D's will be in the same relative position for 1st and 2nd round, but will be at the end of the 3rd round for unsigned 3rd round picks.

what about if the initial demand for a 3rd rounder is 8.5 mill - do you still need to offer their demands to get the pick or can you just offer them roughly the slot bonus?

you need to offer all of their demands, and you need to wait for him to think about it and then give you the X.
