DI Recruits w/ No Stars? Topic

Are DI recruits who have no stars easier to recruit than say a 1 or 2 star?

Sometimes it seems the players with no stars have higher core rating and position rankings but no stars?

Can someone explain this to me please

Basically it means nothing.

well im starting to recruit with a D+ prestige in my first go round in D1, just wondering if I'd have an easier time with going after zero star players...so what your saying is no...im screwed haha

No I am saying that the stars really don't mean anything. You very likely can find 0 star players that are better then 2 star players and vice versa. With a D+ prestige I would likely stick to 2 stars and below with the possibility of a 3 star.

No, some people are lazy and go by stars/rankings. It is usually easier to grab the 175th PG that has the exact same ratings as a 50th ranked PG with 2 stars. Usually.

That 175th PG probably has a lower defense but higher everything else. The rankings system loves defense.

It also loves work ethic way too much.

can a player consider you without you offering a scholly? I've never tried this and am curious...

Agree. After a certain point WE doesn't matter much because your guys are going to max regardless, some will just max sooner.

One good thing about a player who has the right cores and the like and a higher work ethic is that you can often redshirt them regardless of depth and the like, and say "Screw the WE loss, he'll still have enough"

If you are a low prestige school it's much easier to get guys with zero or one star to consider you. If you are D- you may still have to wait on them. If you are D or D+ chances are guys will consider you if nobody else is going after them as well in which case you will battle it out depending on comparable money and prestige. And that's from the beginning.

As said above, stars don't mean much and neither does ranking it seems. However more stars/higher ranking players seem to be "brighter" in terms of OFF/DEF fundamentals on average over guys who aren't ranked or have less stars. Not all 4 star guys are smart from the start and not all zero stars guys are dumb in terms of knowing Off/Def but this just seems I get many more "knows the Motion so well it's like having another coach on the floor" for guys with three stars and above than below.

That said, you will see a lot of guys who turn out to be better players after a year or two who had 1 star out of HS than guys who had may have had 3 or even 4. All depends on how much they can/will grow. Agree about WE above.

The star system only considers their current skills and does not factor in potential. I have recruited many players who ended up better than players initially rated higher.
