Hey guys, thanks for all the help.

In terms of moving guys around, why don't I just show you the players I'm dealing with:

Aramis Aybar - 90/87/89/88

He is almost definitely my SS. He's also 22-- he projects to reach 97/90/99/100. He is a righty.

Yorvit Ortiz - 87/81/93/85

This is the guy my original post was about. He's 21 and still in the minors, but I plan to bring him up after the 20-game minor league mark next year. He projects to hit fielding ratings of 94/94/93/100 (if his glove ever surpasses Aybar's I might move him to SS but I'm not thinking that far ahead right now). I expect his ratings to look more like 89/86/93/89 by the time he comes up. Also a righty.

Willie Ayala - 76/82/80/82

I've been using him at 2B/CF/3B depending on who's resting. He's a righty. He's also 31 so those ratings may decline a bit, though I have $20m in training.

Rob McNamara - 73/85/84/80

He's been a 2B/3B this year-- I don't put him at CF because when given the choice, I'd rather put Ayala and his slightly better range there. McNamara is 29 so he likely won't lose much (if anything) off his fielding ratings going into next year. Throws right-handed.

Vic Servet - 73/90/56/57

He's played CF this year because he is the only y in this bunch. Because of his handedness, he can really only play OF and 1B-- when Ortiz comes up, I'm thinking he may get pushed possibly into LF (since he doesn't have a great arm).

So I'm thinking this: Aybar stays on at SS (should be an obvious choice in my opinion). Then, Ortiz plays either CF or 2B-- Ayala gets moved to whichever one he's not at. McNamara plays 3B full time, and Servet moves to become a Gold Glove LF (or gets traded). I also have a couple other decent fielders I can move around to give me a lot of flexibility in terms of giving guys the day off. Does this sound like a good plan, or would people assign these positions differently? And does this help clarify whether Ortiz should play 2B or CF?

I like everything you're thinking.

For Ortiz, I'm kind of leaning towards CF.

Why? Ayala's glove is good for a 2B, even if his range is iffy, but he'd be a trainwreck in CF with almost 10 below for range (leading to all kinds of minus plays) and a below-average glove will also tend to more, and more costly (2-base-type), errors.

Give CF to the rangey kid, and put the sure handed (if limited range) vet at 2B.

If could be convinced the other way based on # chances for 2B vs. CF, but I think that's part of my thinking, too... wouldn't you rather have your two positions that see the 2nd and 3rd most chances both above average for glove?

Aybar can man SS defensively, but offensively he is horrendous. Keep him as a defensive replacement, but cut him loose once his arbitration years kick in.

Ortiz is your shortstop... No doubt about it. He can both hit and play above average D.

Ayala/McNamara will be your 2b/3b. Both are pretty similar and can be interchangeable.

Servet is your CF. If the 73 range is a problem for you, move him to LF, RF, 1b, or bench and go find another center fielder.

I agree. You could sit Aybar against righties and play Ortiz there. Then, when a y is on the mound, play Aybar at short and move Ortiz to another position.
