D2 vs D3 recruit Topic

I am in D2 going after a recruit that is already considering at D3 A- school. I am at a B school 510 miles away compared to his 20, should I have any problems taking him away even if he pours all his money into him?

Yeah, he could easily out spend you with that distance advantage if he has enough open ships and really wants him.

Ya he only has 2 open ships so he probably doesn't have that much money. Just wondering if my standing in D2 would help me since its not like I am a C or even a D I am a B rated D2 school. I have 5k+ over in my calculations right now for him total.

Oh, it will definitely help you, no question. But there are two questions to ask yourself:

-Will it help enough to overcome any other obstacles (most notably his distance advantage)? $5K from 500 miles is only a few K from 20 miles. But the fact that he only has two open schollies certainly helps a good bit. All things being (relatively) equal, of course a B DII school will beat an A- DIII school. You just have to make sure that the other factors (distance + money) are not too heavily in the DIII school's favor.

-Is this guy worth battling for? Chances are decent that if a DIII team is on him, you can probably do better with a B prestige at DII. This guy could be an anomaly that's really that good, but it would be surprising considering he worked his way through all of DII w. out teams going after him.

He is paying 800 per CV, you are paying 1020ish. If he was a little further it would be about 800 vrs 1200 and he would have a little better chance. Only 200 extra per visit and that low of budget I don't think he will outspend if you really want him.

Daalter, he never made his way through D2 though this is only the 2nd time frame so far. Thats the things I don't understand. He is already battling a D2 school for another guy. I did check on him looks like its his first year in Hoops so I think he overspent already.

I think he put all his money into these recruits and thats why hes on the list is that he probably put 1-2k into them already I bet.

furry, I'm not recruiting right now so you might be right, but I'm fairly certain that there is a bigger discrepancy then that in money for CV's between 20 and 500 miles (more like $800 to $1,300, perhaps).

schro, it does sound like you'd be able to sign that kid. Now you have to refer back to the second question -- is he really worth battling for? Regardless of whether he had the time to actually drop through DII, he's a kid who's readily available to DIII programs, so the odds are still pretty good that you can do better.

On an unrelated note, if recruiting just started, there's really no reliable way you should be able to say that you have $5K allocated for this kid. There's just no real way to know what it might take for other recruits, and trying to guess is a fool's errand. You might easily sign a kid for $1K, or you might have to battle for the same kid and he could cost you 10x that. There's simply no way to chart that in advance that's even semi-reliable.

Yeah I looked again. I guess I clicked on the wrong mileage guy or something. Its 1287 in price for a guy 570 away.
