If I recruit a player using the "guaranteed starter" as a promise do I have to start the player every game during the season? Or is it possible to take him in and out without breaking the promise.

You promise him to start every game by using that, so yes if you don't start him you are not keeping your promise.

Yes you need to start him in every game, like you promised.. atleast a really high percent of your games

You have to start him until the conference tournament gets going then you can put on the bench for a bit unless you make it to the NT then you might want to put him back in for a start or two when the NT starts.

Did you promise him minutes also with the guaranteed starter role. If not then you can play him 9 to 13 minutes per game without him fussing too much since you didnt promise him minutes with the starter role.

I'm pretty close to positive that you don't have to start him every game, just a very high percentage. If he doesn't start 1 game he won't complain. I remember promising a player a start and bringing him off the bench in at least 1 regular season game without a complaint. It's the same way if you promise a guy 15 minutes and in one game he only plays 7 he's not going to complain right after that game.

Im with kmason on this.. thought it was 80%+ of games

I didn't promise him any minutes just the guaranteed start. I didn't think I would get a better player, but I just recruited over him so I don't want my reputation to take a hit.

It's actually 90% now, they changed it.

As kmason and kannc say it doesn't have to be every game. Although personally I just start them and set their mins to the min if I don't actually want to start them.

I think its partly if they are a team player if you can start them less.

Finally why not just start him? Is he going to not play at all? If hes going to get 10 mins or so anyways just start him and have your starter that you want come off the bench.

yeah play him 9 to 13 minutes then your starter comes in and destroys part of the bench squad he plays against.

Schroedess,

I think that's what I was going to do anyway. Just the starter on fairly fresh and the sub on getting tired. Does the promise last the recruits entire career or just freshman year?

The setting for the backup doesn't matter per CS, unless something has changed. CS has pretty much stated the only fatigue setting that matters is what the starter is set at. The reason is, once the starter's fatigue level reaches it's setting he will be subbed back into the game. So for example you have your starter set to fairly fresh and your backup at getting tired, and your backup will still likely be taken out when he is fairly fresh because your starter should be back to fresh by then.

I have never tested it, but I have seen players promised starts that got only 19 or 20 and had no decline in WE. The decline in WE and complaints from the player warn you when you are pushing the envelope.
