Def and Shot Blocking Topic

I have a Freshman C Thoams Odea on my team. He has a SB rating of 70 and decent ATH, but a really low DEF rating. He gets as many blocks as my guards and I'm wondering if any of the vet coaches know whether DEF has an affect on SB. Also, I run the press, if that has any impact?

yes, def impacts shot blocking ability. fairly significantly, i would say. press may result in fewer blocks than the other defenses, but that is not a huge factor.

looking at your guy, his terrible def coupled with poor ath/spd/iq is most likely the answer. i think he should average a little more, but over 22 games, i think that is a reasonable variance.

Based on current DI players and previous players I woudl say yes, defense has a strong effect.

Agreed with billyg. Add in the fact that he's a true freshman so he started the season with a low iq, and he only plays 10 mpg. Also, he's got 63 sta playing the press, so being tired probably contributes. So while I think he should be averaging a little more, it's not unreasonable.

Hopefully he will get more in the future. Thanks for the help guys.

I agree with all of these guys. It makes sense if you think about it. If you have good defensive fundamentals you should be in position to go for the block more often than not.

As an aside, I would think that defense should play a factor in defensive rebounding as well but I'm not sure if that's part of HD. Anybody know?

I don't know for certain that it DOES< but with several of my players in the past it has sure seemed that way.
