Sr. Transfer Starting promise Topic

Does anybody know if promising a JUCO Sr. a start during recruiting and then not following through with it hurts your reputation at the end of the season? I haven't done it, but often thought about it. It's not like the kid can transfer once the season is over, but I don't know if the engine has a mousetrap for this instance.

This was the message I received when my junior .

Coach, the lying about starting me was just something I can't live with. I'm transferring - not sure where yet, but I know I'm not playing here any longer. BTW, I'll make sure everyone knows what a liar you are.

The message was received about 4 days before the offseason improvements, so I'm not sure, but I'm guessing he will leave and you'll take a rep hit.

There is no such thing as a JuCo Senior.

It was probably just a transfer.

ok right, a Sr. Transfer is what i meant. So regardless of whether he starts all season long or not, he's gone either way.

wizard, was this a Juco Jr. that transferred or a Jr. Transfer who's transferring again? I always wondered if a transfer you recruit can then transfer again.

jdno, you might **** the kid off and his WE might drop (a lot?) but there was a fix a year ago or so (tk era i believe) that fixed sr transfers from transferring again.

z, I can see any kid's WE dropping if he is promised the start but then doesn't get it, but if I'm recruiting a Sr. Transfer who has just this 1 season remaining, does it really matter w/r/t your reputation how low his WE drops? He can't threaten to transfer, both b/c apparently TK fixed this issue and, more importantly, he graduates after this lone season w/my team, so is there a real downside to just throwing the promise out if you need some extra consideration in a recruiting battle for him?

Yes, sorry he after his freshman year and transferred for his sophomore season.

On the plus side, even if his WE plummets, chances are he's maxed out in most categories anyways.

No I don't believe so, I think that broken promises can slightly hurt your rep but really rep is almost meaningless, especially if you aren't planning on moving after this year.

ok, that's kinda what I figured as well z.

And yes, I agree wiz, he's probably maxed out in the important categories anyway, and the 10 pts of WE or whatever he loses is pretty meaningless in this context.

Pretty sure rep doesn't matter nearly that much. I have recruited fine with an F rep after getting busted for boosters @ D1. Sure all things being equal it absolutely matters but being at an A opposed from an A+ really isn't going to be a huge detriment.
