Typically I stay away from low control pitchers, but I have an IFA who intrigues me.. Does anyone have anyone who is close to these numbers who can help me out with what he might be able to do..

Stamina-77
Control-24
Splits - 93L/62R
Velocity- 92
GB/FB - 87
Pitches - 99/78/78/58/42

Thanks in advance

I always stay away from those types as well, however I just picked this team up and it had this guy. I was shocked by his sub-4.00 ERA over 70+ IP. He also has 24 CTRL. Not sure what to expect moving forward, but at least it's some data to work with.

Dingo Shelby is a reliever in AAA. At best, he'll be a roster-expansion callup for a couple seasons on an extremely short leash (pull rating = 5).

In general, control < 50 is going to kill you with walks.

Your guy, if his splits were reversed, would be an interesting experiment. But with a vsR split of only 62 . . . nuh uh.

I recently signed an IFA who has projected control of 27, with splits of 46/72 and four pitches (76/61/54/58), velocity 66, GB/FB 54

Only four starts at Rookie Ball so far, 3.18 ERA and 1.71 WHIP.

Probably career minor league rotation filler at best.

Thanks for the quick feedback, it must be IFA week in our league because I just got 2 guys who are much better then him. I had been concerned because I still had 6 million in prospect money and we only have a couple weeks , I guess all the scrubs I got in the beginning of the season is evening out now.. looks like im going after the 2 other guys, hoping to get one of them.

In 15 seasons of HBD, I've had one guy with a sub-50 control who didn't kill me, and he was a mop-up guy who got about 25 IP before going back to AAA and soon thereafter retirement.

Even with the great pitches, VE and GB, I wouldn't trust a 24 CN to be successful above AA. With a 93 vL, you might get away with him as a LHS above AA, but it's probably not worth the effort.

I've had some (key word "some") success with a sub-50 control pitcher, but closer to 50 than 25. With control in the upper 40's and very good splits, I have an SP in Roid Rage who went 12-7 with a 3.35 ERA and 16-11 with a 3.95 ERA in his past two seasons. He walks a lot of batters (71 and 97 respectively) but his OAV is consistently low, his WHIP decent. This year he's 4-1 with a 4.18 ERA in 8 starts.

Is 24 control a projection? Thats god awfully bad. Walk the other direction

Generally, pitchers with control below 40 are totally useless no matter what in the ML and pitchers with control below 55 or 60 better have some really great splits and pitches.

Control that low is an automatic 1.00 addition to his WHIP over a season. Even the pitcher with the best splits and pitch ratings will give up .80 worth of hits in the WHIP formula. Your guy will have a 1.95 or greater WHIP for his career, which is impossible to be successful with.
