they are very vague when it comes to how PC impacts pitchers. I've yet to see great evidence that a high PC helps some pitchers (ones who have bad secondary pitches, etc) more than others.

If you play in Madison, pay extra attention to GB/FB versus a regular park. In a park like that, I would pay a good deal more attention to it than, say, Velocity, and I would use it to break all ties in my mind. Madison is almost Coors-ish in its ratings.

Can a pitcher projected to have 23 control succeed in the majors?

No.

even with 80/80 splits?

No. Not quite 23/80/80(and an admittedly SSS):

But, as you can see, his AAA numbers would suck in the bigs.

Under certain circumstances, a very good pitch coach can convince a pitcher to drop a poor pitch.

Actually, based on a ticket response I got stemming from that last thread we debated this in, it seems like PC doesn't determine frequency of pitches used, but doesincrease the effectiveness of each pitch independently. So a guy with fringy secondary pitches could perform like he has usable secondary pitches when teamed with a catcher with a great PC

This doesn't make sense to me. How does which pitch a catcher calls make that pitch more effective? PC does not affect how well a pitcher throwsa pitch. My understanding has always been that a catcher with a high PC will be better at calling the right pitch for the situation. But how the pitcher executes the trrowing of the pitch has nothing to do with the catcher's PC. Why would it? Once the catcher calls the pitch, he's done. Then it's up to the pitcher.

ADMIN has stated quite clearly that AB's are not resolved on a "pitch by pitch" basis; that the results of an AB are determined by a formula that takes all factors into consideration.

I would imagine that the catcher's PC would be one of those factors. A higher PC would work itself into the formula in such a way that it would slightly tilt the outcome in favor of the pitcher than would a lower PC.

Not quite 80/80, but a close comparable. 23 control will not do very well.
