Do you pay attention to spring training numbers in deciding your lineup?

This guy http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2257472 was going to be my RF but he isn't hitting worth a hoot.

This guy has only Single A experience but nice ratings and tremendous projections http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2614579 . I was going to keep him at AAA this year and move him up next year as a 3B or (more likely) RF. However, he's killing the ball in Spring Training. Do I pay attention to those numbers or not?

I am new...and I know I am not a brain surgeon.....But I do not pay attention to spring numbers.....as most of the time...AA players or AAA players are playing. I know most owners do not throw the ML guys out much....so for me..it would be a false reading on how he does against ML pitching

Short Answer - "No"

Longer answer - I would advise you not to make any decisions whatsoever based on ST stats. I personally try and accomplish only three things in ST - 1) Get my vets their 20 PA or 3 G/10IP to hold off decline (my numbers, others use different ones); 2) Play the prospects who I hope will someday make the ML the rest of the time; 3) Pray to avoid injuries.

In your specific case, I wouldn't make any decision based on a player having "only Single A experience" either. Looking at the two players, Player 2 has better ratings right now, but with only 3 years of pro ball, I'd keep him in AAA and keep his price tag down for at least another season to maximize his prime years with you. At the very least, he'd start in AAA for me and if I thought he'd be the difference between playoff and no playoffs, then I'd perhaps promote him at game 21.

But he will for sure be a huge ML player in the near future.... send me a few of those guys:)

I play catchers at 3B in spring training. I rest most of my good players for half the game. If a team scores 10 runs a game against me I just wonder why they couldn't manage more. I would not put stock in numbers gained against opponents who do not care about the outcomes of games (especially since you can couple that with a small sample size).

I like to bat my pitcher in the leadoff spot in ST to give my bench more pinch hitting opportunities.

I don't look at boxscores (or scores, for that matter) of the games, I just shuffle players in and out of the starting lineup.

Nope. The only time I even bother checking stats is about halfway through to see who hasn't been getting any ABs under the substitution pattern and put them in the starting lineup.
