Can you sacrifice RE to gain ATH/SP? (d1) Topic

I feel like ive fallen into a bit of a rut with my Tark-syracuse team.

We are a Fastbreak team and so obviously ath/sp is crucial, but i allways find it very hard to sacrifice RE at any level.

Thinking back about 20 seasons ago, I think i did try for a few years to win almost solely on speed/turnover margin, and i think i often played with PF, SF, SF, SG, PG. but, like i say, im in a bit of a rut and even though i have kind of decided to move back towards speed, i seem to allways end up with 3 or 4 bigs who are not as fast and athletic as id like.

okay, rather than posting my whole lineup or asking you guys to go digging through my profile... i just have a couple of pointed questions.......

1) is there any chance that i could get away with a lineup having these RE ratings? 95, 60, 32, 7, 27 realated question...i have been flipping around between zone, press and zone/press. should i assume that the only chance this 3gaurd setup has is to go fullcourt press? because either way i lose the RE battle, so my only chance is to force a bunch of TO's and win the TO battle?

2) ive got a kid with 100ath/97sp , 79bh/78pa, but only 7 RE. I dont know where i got this idea, but i have allways thought that ATH is really valuable for SF's. Does anyone else agree? and , if so, would you consider playing a 7RE player at SF? My thinking right now is that it might be okay... if PF and C are both 95+RE.

3) have they made a change that weakens the talent level of the recruiting pool in the past 6-8 months? (My understanding is that such a change is on the way, but not here yet?) Butmy observbation tells me it may already be here! or maybe my recruiting skills are just diminishing. In any case, im just finding it really hard to sign players that combine ath/sp and RE. I used to be able to find SFs that could really rebound, or PFs that were extremely athletic. I know there are still a few out there, but not very many.

I would be scared to try it

I think it may be ok if the g's have decent

I take ath/reb as my top cores in bigs, with spd/ath/re at the sf but will sacrifice re for per if its great in a sf

I play a SG with 4 REB at SF. He doesn't board up much (like 1/game), but he has 99 speed and 99 PE (I play my SF's as a 3rd guard and run a press). Anyway, he gets a lot of steals (your guy would too with his ath/speed advantage) and scores lots of points. He seems to do ok on D as well (not too many points scored against) with a 90 something D rating. Anyway, he averages a little over 12 ppg, and I love having him there.

RE: No. 3 - I feel I have noticed a lowering of the ratings pool with my DII team (which has A prestige and should be able to see lots of players). At least on post players... even pull downs that I looked at were nothing more than role players last season in recruiting. Who knows.

I have gone small many times. I think it is crazy to go small playing zone, because the rebounding will kill you. It is possible to not get killed on the boards in a man/press team.

I hate going small, at d1 I like to be 99-99-80-40-20 :)

I usually play small ole d. Many times I have played sf's at the 4, It takes a lot of looking to find the right kids that can play the position well but they can be found. I forgot to save my pages from last year... let me see if i can find the kid that played backup 4 for me last year and maybe I can find a few other kids ratings too. Usually the kids have great ATH and very good speed to go with 70 ish + reb. I love having that high (sometimes elite) per at the 4.

Have guards with decent rebounding potential really become that rare? 7/27 are terrible REB ratings for zone guards.
