The rebuilding process Topic

so I took on a nice rebuilding team... I have very low player payroll and have maxed out Prospect Payroll and all of the Scouting/Training departments. I have the 2nd pick in the draft and will probably use it on a pitcher.. I've noticed (maybe I'm wrong) but second round picks and later in the Amateur Draft generally aren't that high ratings-wise..

My question... could I legitamately get three-five young studs this season to help the rebuilding process? Am I going to have to bank on International Prospects? How many Int'l Prospects could I potentially sign in one sesaon?

Basically I'm wondering if the Amateur Draft is the only way to get really good young guys in my first season, or could I net a few Int'l Prospects and get a handful of young guys this season to develop?

You should be able to get a stud with the #2 pick in the draft. Draft carefully.

There's no limit on how many IFA's you can sign in a season. Realistically, though, don't plan on landing more than one stud via IFA. Depending on the competition for IFA's in your world, you might not see more than one or be able to afford more than one. Particularly if your #2 draft pick is asking for more than slot money.

Don't neglect trading for young prospects as well, partiucularly if you have major league or near major league talent available to trade.

I had a few decent ML guys with big contracts... I traded a couple of them for young prospects, but got shafted on one trade when I traded a decent ML pitcher for two 3B/2B infielders, not realizing I already have a surplus of good young IF prospects. Oh well

Renegades I have this team now in my first season in this world. As by the records, there is not a big task to live up to. I do have the #1 pick this year, and I hope it is a huge impact player. I did raid the free agent market after everyone else signed the big players....I thought my pitching would be struggling worse than it is. My hitter is the huge reason I am 12-24. averaging less than 3 runs a game. I tried to get some sinker ball pitchers, defensive players to ride out the first season, until I can draft decent players. I managed to get a few pitchers off the waiver wire, who are pitching better than my other pitchers. I anticipate struggling for a couple seasons, but is it safe to say, possibly I can be .500 next season?

I still think I can get 70-75 wins this season.....which would be the most for this team since the 1st season Curt Valdes
