I know that a Type A free agent is a person that current ratings are in the top 20% of thier position group. The question I have is about which ratings do they mean. If they mean the overall rating, I find that problematic considering the overall rating does not always reflect the quality of the player. Do the Other ratings (Hitting, Fielding) apply? and does performance (this guy has been league MVP like 7 times) even weigh into the equation?

This is the guy in question-- some think he would not be a type A after next season?

I have seen a lot worse Type A FA than him. IMO he would be a Type A.

Typically 80 OVR is a good bet for Type A designation.

78 is borderline, but he'd be a compesation FA, for sure.

For a 1B, I think a 78 is a sure fire type A

If he declines more than 3 or 4 overall points at next rollover, he's a Type B.

at least he can't get any worse at running the bases.

I was surprised to get no compensation for losing this 1B after season 7. I was hoping for Type A but assumed I'd at least get a Type B. I will say that I felt better about it after he laid an egg in season 8.
