Guard/SF scoring with low per Topic

I'll start off by saying I think in D1 guards need high per to be good scorers because everybody is so athletic/fast and has good D. This is mainly for D2 and D3.

I really think you can have efficient scorers at the guard spots and SF without much per or LP for SFs. I think people automatically assumed a SG with a 30 per will be a bad scorer, and I don't think so. I feel ath/sp and BH play a huge role in how good of a scorer a player will be. I submit two examples and want to see who you guys think would be a better scorer at D2. We're going to assume IQs are the same and the players around them are exactly the same.

Player A: 35ath/85sp/95per/70bh
Player B: 75ath/95sp/50per/90bh

Who is the better scorer?

that 50 per is more than enough to be a stud scorer in D2.

I had a D2 guy that ended up at 50ath/100spd/55per/98bh/96pas and he averaged about 15 points a game over the couple seasons he started. One season at SG and one at PG. 50% fg shooter and 45% 3pt (190 att).

I would take b hands down that bh is just to low with player a

I'll adjust it a bit, because it looks player B easily.

Is it already adjusted? I'll take A as a scorer, but I'd rather have B for the way I run my teams.

Speed and Athleticism are the most important parts of the game. Definitely B.

Who is the better scorer, A will be. Absolutely. B won't be a big scorer at all unless he is A ft shooter.

B might be a better player, but A is the better scorer. Also, B is going to allow defenses to sag on your big guys, making the players around him worse.

I think athleticism plays a small part for scoring in relation to guards. Most likely I would go with Player A and have him camp out behind the arc with a +2 setting.

Now if I had 2 SG's already on the team that were capable of hitting the 3, then I may opt to go with Player B and put him at SF. Maybe a slasher type in a dribble, drive and pass out offense.

I'm not sure which of the two would be a better scorer. I think A would certainly be more of a perimeter scorer and B would be more of a slasher.

I had two players last season at JHU that fit this mold. One had 64 athleticism, 69 speed, and 44 ball handling but his perimeter was around 22.

The other guy had 47 athleticism, 24 speed, 51 ball handling, and 63 perimeter.

I found that the first guy tended to drive a lot and also got a lot of offensive rebounds (despite having a rebounding rating of 16) and tips. He averaged 10+ points per game, 4 boards (he was a PG), and around 4 assists.

The second guy didn't drive much and didn't rebound much. But he shot 40+ percent from 3pt land and averaged about 17 points per game.

So, both were decent scorers but just did it from different places on the floor. I think you're A and B players would fit a similar mold.

Disagree with this. Athleticism is very important for scoring. I had a player on a D2 team that ended his career with something like 92ath/63sp and for his career scored 1266 points and averaged 13+ppg in his final 2 seasons while shooting over 50% both seasons. He had good per, something like 86 (shot over 46% for his career), don't remember his ball handling however although I think it was solid.

This is the player. http://whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerHistory/Default.aspx?pid=1333610

What do you classify as a big scorer?

I can't speak for davey, but it seems like anywhere between 10 and 20 points leads most teams.
