HOF'er closers are a different breed and making a standard of 50IP is a little ridiculous is all I am saying. The amount of IP seems irrelevant if you do your job and do it consistently, over time and are still passing players on the saves list. The stat here to be considered is SAVES.

which happens to be the most overrated stat ever, which is saying something since Wins and RBIs are wildly overrated as well...not to mention that he doesn't even have a tremendously impressive # of saves yet (where will he rank all-time in 10 or 20 seasons, i'd be surprised if it is in the top 10)...if he gets to 500 then maybe you can start to make a case (a weak one imho, but at least there's an argument to be made)...and let's not forget that sparkling ERA...and finally yes, IP matter, the more outs you get the more valuable you are (so you are correct that the standard of 50 IP might be little ridiculous, but you are arguing on the wrong side of 50)

And he's less than 90% on save conversions....

So, nobody's going to point out that the limit (which patrick may change anyway) is 50 games, not 50 innings? That guy looks like he still falls short, but it's closer.

I agree that rooksie's guy would never get my particular vote, but there is merit to the contention it's a bit ridiculous that a (better version of that) guy who leads the World in saves (an admittedly worthless stat, IMO, but not in everyone's eyes) isn't even eligible to be nominated.

i have no problem with like this not being eligible, a HOF player should be utilized more than 40 innings a season...

the reliever in question isn't HOF caliber anyway, i don't care how many saves he has

For relievers the qualifications are 50G not 50IP.

I may have missed this, but are you basically taking GP/MLB Service Time to come up with a per season average?

vladyhop - I posted the analysis of some data two pages back. It compares the numbers using MLB Years vs. the actual seasons played (to account for players generated with MLB years upon world creation).

I see that a pitcher will choose to wear the cap of the team is plays the most games for. I think it should be based on # of innings. I say this because I have seen cases where a starting pitcher is used in a relief role and pitches in 75-80 games (1-2 innings at most each outing) vs. pitching around 30-40 games as a starter. Thus, if he pitches 4 seasons for the first team and 8 for the second team, he will wear the cap of the first team if it is based on games and not innings.
