It is early in my first season in HBD (15 games), but I noticed a statistical anamoly that appears to be outside of the "normal" range. My team has only 6 double plays. The average is 34 and next lowest is 20. My pitcher's GB/FB ratio is higher that average but not at the top and my team fielding ratings are about league average in all other categories. The team did not have this problem last year. Is this unusual or just the result of a small sample size? Is there anything in the manager settings that may be causing this? Also, could this be the reason that even though the AVG., OBP., SLUG., OPS, WHIP and HRs against is average, my ERA is almost a run above league average?

I'd say your pitching isn't very good. Your defense is also not very good. And it is a small sample size.

but with bad pitching i'd expect more DPs, since there are more often runners on base.

small sample size

I feel as if there are way too many double plays hit in to. I would say that every game I play there is an average of 5+ total double plays per game. I feel as if that is a lot. Also, I am not sure what the actual percentage is in MLB, but it appears to be that there are way too many situations where someone has bases loaded or 2nd and 3rd with less than 2 outs and a run doesn't score. It also appears to happen quite frequently when there are 0 outs in which case, with bases loaded, even the double play would get in a run. Anyone else, thoughts?

I am hoping that it is only based on a small sample size. I will let you know how it porgresses during the season.

Is there anything that I can do in setting manager preferences to affect this?

I think in the fielding statistics double plays are counted for each player involved. So if you had a 6-4-3 double play all three players would get credit in their individual fielding stats and when you aggreagte the field stats it would show up as 3 DPs.

There is no manager setting to induce ground balls or encourage your IF to turn a double play.

I am aware of this...If I counted it up there'd be a total of close to 10 a game lol.

I think it was due to a small sample size. After five more games I am up to 32 DPs , which is in the lower end but not abnormal.

Waitaminute... your team turned 26 DPs in the last five games?!?!?

One other thing to check.... did you have a -handed second baseman?

The only real way to track your total number of double plays (GIDP at least, this method won't show your non groundout DPs like OF assists and caught stealing) as a team is to look at the extended pitching team stats.

If you just look at the total on the team and player fielding stats page it counts one for every player that was involved in the DP.
