Rebuilding Question Topic

I am thinking about picking up a team to rebuild with. This team currently has 6 sr, 1 jr, 1 so, and 4 fr. I'd obviously fill the 6 scholarships in the first year.

I was then thinking about cutting the remaining underclassmen after the following season, because they really are not worth keeping on the D1 level. I could then try to fill as many as the 6 scholarships as possible with only the money for 1 scholarship, but would then have the money for those open scholarships the following season, which would then give me a team of players that I want/need for whatever offense/defense I want to run.

If I were to do this, would anyone see this as a step over the lines of fair play? I honestly don't see it that way, but I wanted to get others opinions on this.

Thanks!

I did this on my caldwell team. We had 9 openings the first year, 7 the next. Each season we took 2 walk ons. We missed the post season year 1, pit the next and then NT ever sense. Nothing wrong with getting the players you want as soon as possible.

Honestly I would cut all the freshman besides 1 or 2 of them as a backup. If your going to do it you might as well do it your first season and not worry about them. If they are not good enough to play on your team why even keep them? Just cut the ties this year and have the money next year from their scholarships. Plus your new freshman can plays anyways.

Not really. It woudl be like a new coach coming in to a team and saying to certain players: "Look, honestly, you aren't likely to get much play in my system, if you want to transfer elsewhere I perfectly understand"
