Q about keeping ineligibles for 5th year Topic

I have a very good transfer player on one of my D3 teams who spent his first year at a D2 school as an ineligible.

It is imperative that I keep bring him back for his 5th year (he is finishing his Junior year now, so I'm hoping to get him for 3 years total) because he is very good and had very poor Work Ethic to start. I am giving him a few extra minutes per game, but in order for him to come close to his ceiling I would need him to play the 5th year (third with my program).

What can I do to increase my chances with this? My friend said to keep his cumulative GPA above 2.7, anything else I can do? Does it matter that he transfered to me? What're the odds that he does come back for a 5th year?

I have nearly the same situation with one of my players. He was ineligible at D2, then transferred without ever playing at the D2 level. He is finishing his SR season at D3 and should come back next season as a SR/5.

I asked the same question previously and the consensus was that he would return. And I believe that at D3 they will always come back. But I am not certain of this.

The odds that he comes back are 100%. You always get 4 playing seasons at DIII/DII. Your friend is incorrect regarding the 2.7 GPA. At DII/DIII all you need is a 2.0 GPA. The 2.7 only applies to DI for the player to be eligible to return but it is not guaranteed. At DI, it is the player's option to return or not.
